How we approach it
A deck is the piece of the yard you use every day, so it is worth getting the setting-out right before a single board goes down. We look at where the sun lands, where the door opens, and how you actually want to sit out there, then build to that.
Substructure first, always. The frame is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether the deck is still flat in ten years.
